Lake Eyre and Birdsville
One of our most popular 2 day air tours. Departing Moorabbin Airport around 7:30am and land at William Creek for lunch in the hotel. Then a 1.5 hr drive each way out to the shores of the Lake in the afternoon – see the water and view the magnificent salt pan from the sandy shoreline. It may be difficult to see the water from the shoreline but you never know, as it moves around with the wind.
Staying the night in twin share rooms at William Creek, the next morning fly up the Lake following the Warburton Channel, which is where the water flows through from the Diamantina. Once near the top we turn south and fly down the eastern side, past the Cooper Creek (which is unlikely to make it to the Lake) and over Donald Campbell’s speed trial area, until we land at Mulloorina Station for lunch. If time permits, take a swim in their creek/thermal spring. In the afternoon fly over the Flinders ranges back to Moorabbin, arriving home around 6pm. This trip should give you fantastic views over the whole of the Lake.
Another of our popular 2 day air tours! A flight of 1.5 hrs gets us to the east coast of Victoria and the quaint town of Mallacoota. After a Chinese noodle lunch at Lucy’s restaurant, take a half day fishing tour on the protected lakes. Fish for Australian Bass, Bream, Flathead and view the wilderness area of the lakes. Accommodation is in the Hotel/Motel or Karbeethong Lodge.
On the second day try fishing in the ocean or a boat cruise up the inlet on Porkie Bess to view Sea Eagles and other birds. The ocean fishing can include scuba diving for abalone. Return to Melbourne that evening.
This is just a short 85 minute charter flight to Flinders Island in the middle of Bass Strait. This is a stunning island with volcanic rock, mountains, unbelievable beaches, fishing, great walks and just a place for a weekend to get away from it all.
Stay in a B&B style accommodation or the modern Furneaux Tavern at Lady Baron. Take a tour around the island and visit the great bays and beaches such as Trouser’s Point and Killecrankie. If you’re particularly fit, you might like to climb Mt Strezleckie. The return flight to Moorabbin late afternoon on day two completes the 2 day air tour.
Mungo National Park
This 2 day air tour is special as the flight takes you direct to Mungo, landing on the dirt airstrip and staying at Lake Mungo Lodge. Stay at Mungo for the day and take a half day drive through this amazing remote landscape to view the China wall and the amazing sandstone landscape especially around sunset. Dinner in the lodge then after breakfast next morning fly 20 minutes to Mildura.
Visit a winery for lunch on the banks of the Murray river then a 1.5 hr flight back to Moorabbin arriving late afternoon. http://www.mungolodge.com.au/
In 35 minutes fly in the Super King Air aircraft and land at Mt Hotham airport. Imagine then skiing for the day and relaxing by the fireplace in the evening. The King Air is the only aircraft assigned to this flight as it is twin turbine, pressurised and has de-icing equipment. See Mt Hotham Flights.
Cape Wickham King Island and/or Barnbougle Golf Course
This is a golf day to remember. If you love your golf, you’ll why not make it a two day stint and play 18 rounds of golf at Cape Wickham, say overnight, then go on to one of Australia’s best golf courses at Barnbougle… Check details here.
Escape the city early with a 2:30 pm Moorabbin departure, for a weekend of experiencing the highlights of the northern Flinders Ranges.
Following a 30 min refuelling stop in Mildura, you will soon be seeing the Flinders Ranges rise out of the flat country, as you land at Balcanoona Station at around 5:30 pm local time.
A scenic 30 minute drive brings you to the Arkaroola Wilderness Resort, arriving in time for a delicious dinner in the Native Pine Restaurant.
That night, weather permitting, you may indulge in a guided tour of Arkaroola’s incredibly dark night sky at the observatory, learning about space in an easy to understand, fun manner.
Accommodation is in modern, comfortable twin share en-suite motel units. (see: www.arkaroola.com.au for details)
Start your second day with a hot breakfast, before heading out by 4wd to explore the ancient past of Bollabollana and Noodoonooldoona. The fresh water springs, deep gorges and historic smelters are just the beginning of getting back in touch with nature. If you’re feeling more energetic you may choose to set off on foot and meander along the winding tracks prior to joining us for a cuppa beside one of the many waterholes, then it’s back for a wholesome lunch at the Pick and Shovel bar.
Today’s world renowned 4WD Ridgetop Tour features an exclusive twist for Kirkhope Aviation passengers, with an exhilarating helicopter touch down on the striking Siller’s Lookout where the Northern Flinders ranges meet the plains.
Your 4WD guide will be awaiting your arrival at the lookout ready for the descent, through the ranges, as the afternoon light shines amongst ancient rock formations.
Celebrate this impressive day with drinks on the ridge top, before heading back to the village.
