Itinerary: Taste of the Outback (3 days)
Melbourne to Innamincka to Birdsville (L,D)
Your three day outback air safari kicks off at 8.00am from Moorabbin Airport, bound for the tiny outback town of Innamincka in South Australia’s remote north east. On the way in, your pilot will fly low over the Dig Tree, where the explorers Burke and Wills famously set up camp. On the ground, learn more about this pioneering pair and their ill-fated expedition. Enjoy a cruise on the Cooper Creek aboard the ‘Kingfisher’ before lunch at the Innamincka Hotel, a true outback pub.
Then, it’s on to Birdsville. On touchdown, embark on a stunning 4WD tour to Big Red, the 40 metre sand dune on the edge of the Simpson Desert. Drink in the views as the sun sets while enjoying refreshments. Return to Birdsville for a cleansing ale, dinner and chat with fellow travellers at the famous outback pub.
